It's been a while since Yani Tseng played the weekend in a major championship on the LPGA Tour. In fact, the last major cut Tseng made was at the AIG Women's Open in 2017.

Tseng opened the fifth and final major of the 2025 season with an even-par 72, only to stumble slightly on Friday after bookmarking her round with a couple of bogeys to post a 1-over 73, what was one shot clear of the cutline going into the weekend in Wales.

The two-time AIG Women's Open champion knows it has been a long time since she's played on the weekend and was a little nervous on the closing hole at Royal Porthcawl, particularly knowing what was on the line.

"On the last drive, I was really quick and made a bogey on the 18th hole,” Tseng said. “It was a good chance to make birdie, but I'm glad I still have a weekend I can play free and be more free tomorrow for sure."

The LPGA Tour veteran has fought hard over the past few years to get back in form and is admittedly proud of herself for not giving up. Those efforts have given Tseng a chance to come back and play a links course, a style of golf she has always enjoyed.

"It's always a dream. This is one of my favorite golf courses, links style, playing the imagination shot there," said the Chinese Taipei native. "I feel like I was playing a little slow because of very tough conditions out there this afternoon, but I'm proud of myself. I stayed patient. I keep telling myself, ‘It's okay, one shot at a time.’"

The 15-time winner has not lost her love for the game, despite the rough times she has faced in recent seasons, and that fact has surprised her. “After surgery, you realize how much I love golf,” Tseng said. “Every time I fell, I start to feel like I love more. It's crazy. It's a hate-and-love relationship with golf.

"I enjoy this game, and I still feel passionate about this game, and I want to see the best version of myself and play well again."

Tseng currently sits in a tie for 35th at the AIG Women’s Open and hopes to play as freely as she can this weekend at Royal Porthcawl Golf Club. She is incredibly excited about taking full advantage of this made cut in a tournament she has won before, hoping "to enjoy more out there and then be aggressive and do the best I can do."
