Another tournament on the LPGA Tour schedule, another week where Jeeno Thitikul is in the mix heading into the weekend.

It’s become fairly commonplace to see Thitikul climbing the leaderboard each week on the LPGA, and the JM Eagle LA Championship presented by Plastpro – even though it’s at a first-time venue – is no exception.

Thitikul fired a 5-under 67 on Friday and sat just three back of the lead as the afternoon wave got underway.

So far in 2025, Thitikul has had four top-10 finishes in five starts. In fact, the Thailand native’s T12 at the Blue Bay LPGA is her only result outside the top 10 on the LPGA Tour since last August.

"I'm just the type of person, not go like high-high and not go like low-low," said Thitikul of her consistent play earlier in 2025. "That's the most important that I really want to keep it because the more really consistent that you are, it's giving you a good chance every week."

Thitikul has done just that through 36 holes at El Caballero Country Club. Starting on the back nine, she was 2-under through six holes to open her second round before giving one back on the par-5 16th. Thitikul added a birdie on the par-4 2nd hole before dunking her approach for a two on the par-4 5th, a shot for which Thitikul said she had a perfect 58-degree wedge yardage.

“It (was) a good number to be. It’s a good pin. I can hit it full and nothing to worry about, being short or left or right,” she explained. “Just my third time on the LPGA that I holed out. I talked to my caddie like, ‘Oh, this is the perfect one.’ It was the best one out of the three so far.”

Thitikul added one more birdie on her penultimate hole of the day, the par-4 8th, to close out her second-round 67. She missed just two greens on Friday.

Thitikul has long been one of the LPGA’s best ball strikers, but so far in 2025, there’s also been a marked improvement in her putting, statistically. Last year, she was 46th in putts per round, and this year, she’s zipped up to 12th in that same statistic. She’s also gaining strokes around the green.

Thitikul said that after the Buick LPGA Shanghai until now, she’s felt her confidence with her putter has increased. She’s trying to become more focused on her process and “thinking less” when she putts – not hoping for a perfect putt or hitting it on a perfect line.

“Just trying to see the visualization and do it as a feeling-wise, hand-eye-coordination-wise. Not really hoping for things (to be) perfect,” she explained.

As part of Thitikul’s spectacular season-ending effort in 2024, she captured her fourth career title at the last event of the year, the CME Group Tour Championship. For good measure, she also finished runner-up at the Grant Thornton Invitational alongside multi-time PGA Tour winner Tom Kim in mid-December.

Given her impressive run through the end of last year and through the early part of 2025, it makes complete sense to see her up at the top of the leaderboard once again. Thitikul said Friday could have been upwards of four shots better had she made a few more putts.

Through 36 holes at the JM Eagle LA Championship, though, Thitikul is ready to make another run on the LPGA Tour.

“I know I did great last couple months, but that’s the past. It’s already past. And then I can just be in the present and keep the momentum going,” said Thitikul, who already has a win on the Ladies European Tour this season. “It doesn't matter if I'm going to hit it good or bad. I think it just like be in the present and enjoy the moment. You're not going to be in the same moment again anymore, so I am just really enjoying it, and I try to do my best.”
