Alison Lee was keeping a pretty big secret at the 2024 Solheim Cup.

There were a couple of people in the U.S. Team room who knew what she was hiding, as Alison had told U.S. Captain Stacy Lewis the week before the squad arrived in Virginia what was going on, wanting her to be prepared just in case Alison had to bench herself before play began at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club.

Megan Khang, who is one of Alison’s best friends on the LPGA Tour, was also in the know and provided a ton of support to Alison throughout the Solheim Cup, even though she might not have fully understood exactly what her friend was physically going through.

Otherwise, though, no one had any idea what was up with Alison, and it was only when the 30-year-old shared a photo carousel on Instagram on March 3 did anyone realize just what she was keeping hidden that week during one of the biggest events in all of women’s golf.

She was pregnant with her first child.

“I kept it pretty low-key and didn't tell a lot of people in the beginning because I was still playing,” Lee said. “I was actually almost eight weeks pregnant during the Solheim Cup. I didn't tell anyone. I think the only people that knew that week on the team were Megan and then I told Stacy because there was a small chance I didn't even think I could play; my morning sickness was so bad.

“But thank God for Zofran and nausea medication because that's what got me through the week.”

Even though she was nearly through her first trimester in Virginia, Alison kept on competing after the Americans won the Solheim Cup, teeing it up in three tournaments in Asia before shutting golf down in her second trimester to get ready for the baby. And while those overseas events were a bit of a struggle for the expecting mother, Alison didn’t really care too much how she wrapped up the 2024 LPGA Tour season.

She was more excited for the new chapter of her life that was unfolding and took advantage of the opportunity to fully prepare for the upcoming birth of her son, even getting to pick the brains of some of her LPGA friends who have recently had kids themselves.

“Michelle (Wie West) moved here recently to Las Vegas, and she had her son around four or five months ago. She's been a huge help,” Alison said. “She gave me all of her son's clothes, so all the clothes that Levi's wearing now are all of Michelle's hand-me-downs. She's been awesome, even when I was pregnant too, asking her questions, asking her how she felt.

“I have other friends, too, like Jessica (Korda) has been amazing as well, but having Michelle here, getting dinner with her, checking in, seeing her once in a while, being able to see her interact with her son when he was a month or two or three months old, I felt like really prepared me.”

With her partner, Trey Kidd, by her side, Alison finally welcomed Levi Todd Kidd, whose middle name honors Trey’s late brother, into the world on April 25 via an emergency C-section after she was in labor for over 24 hours, something that wasn’t exactly in the plans for Alison and Trey. But despite that unexpected turn of events during his birth experience and a pretty uncomfortable pregnancy, Levi has been the greatest gift for the young couple, who are elated to be parents for the first time.

Babies often bring with them chasmic perspective shifts, creating life-altering change to their parents’ points of view, and while he has only just arrived, Alison admits that Levi has completely turned her life on its head, making her think so differently about her place in this world now that she is a mother and not just a professional golfer.

“Having him here now has been so amazing and really changed my life,” said Alison, who officially announced Levi’s birth via Instagram on May 1. “Golf used to be so, so, so important to me. I used to wake up, think about golf, breathe golf. Every thought I had and every goal I had in terms of life goals or thinking about tomorrow, thinking about next month, thinking about next year, the next day, it was all surrounded by golf. But now, I feel so laser-focused on this little guy, trying to cater to him and make sure he's comfortable.

“Even thinking about the future, I don't think about myself anymore, my personal goals. I feel like I'm totally changed now. I definitely do want to play golf again and soon, but I definitely think my outlook on life is so different now that he's here.”

Even though Levi is just a couple of weeks old, he is loved so much already by not just his parents but also by Alison’s LPGA Tour counterparts. Several of her friends and colleagues commented on Levi’s birth announcement on social media, sharing their excitement for Alison and Trey’s new addition to their young family.

Alison has also been keeping in touch with some other players who are expecting children of their own later this year, like Ally Ewing and Emma Talley, who were also involved in last year’s Solheim Cup, and cheering others on who have just recently shared that they are beginning their own pregnancy journeys.

“It's been overwhelmingly amazing. Everyone's been so positive and congratulating me,” Alison said. “I do feel bad, though, because it has been a crazy last couple of weeks, and the whole delivery process was crazy for me, so I still haven't really been able to talk to a ton of people and engage with them and have conversations about what's been going on.

“It's been a constant rotation of make food, pump breast milk, do the dishes, change diapers, and then repeat. But it's been so awesome, and it's also cool to see some other girls announce their pregnancy. I've talked to Emma (Talley) quite a bit here and there. We were checking in on each other because she's pregnant as well. Same with Ally (Ewing). I saw that Janet (Lin) announced her pregnancy recently. I think it's so cool that there are so many women on Tour right now that are going through the same experience that I did.”

Alison is hoping to return to full-time professional golf in 2026, but she might try to tee it up later this year if her body is up to it and she feels like traveling with Levi in tow is feasible. Being a professional athlete and a mother is a delicate balancing act, a challenge that Alison has seen many of her colleagues successfully tackle head-on in recent years and one that she is looking forward to undertaking herself sooner rather than later.

But for now, though, Alison is working on settling into her new life as Levi’s mom and is already dreaming of all the new experiences she will get to introduce him to as he grows older, hopeful for her baby’s future and thrilled that she gets to guide him through this life as his mother.

“For me, being selfish, I want him to pick up the game of golf. Hopefully, he's athletic and he can play some sports as well. Not that he needs to be a pro athlete or anything like that,” Alison said. “I'm thinking a little too far ahead now, but I'm excited. I'm excited for all those things. I'm excited to share the game of golf with him. Even though I've been home, and I haven't really been playing, I feel like I've been watching more golf than before, watching PGA Tour, watching LPGA Tour, seeing how my friends are doing and checking in on them.

“I think it'd be really cool to introduce the game that I love so much to him hopefully in the future.”
